    ALEJANDRO Y EL NUDO GORDIANO

    En el siglo II d.C. el filósofo e historiador Arriano contó el origen legendario del carro de Midas en la ciudad de Gordio. Decía que el yugo del carro estaba atado a una lanza a través de un nudo inextricable. Entonces, Arriano cuenta esta anécdota de Alejandro Magno:
     
     
     
    "A más de ésta, corría otra leyenda sobre este carro: estaba vaticinado que quien fuera capaz de soltar el nudo del yugo del carro gobernaría en toda el Asia. El nudo era de hilachas de cornejo, y parecía no tener principio ni fin. Alejandro, en vista de lo difícil que resultaba encontrar un modo de desatarlo y como, de otra parte, no podía consentir que quedara atado, no fuera a ser que ello influyera en el ánimo de sus hombres, cercenó-según dicen-el nudo de un golpe de su espada y exclamó: ¡Ya está desatado!
